I still have mixed feelings, mostly about the prospect of tearing down the old one when they build the new one. I think it would be great if the city left the shell and built beautiful parks inside. In order to get the kind of space you'd need to make up for the parks being destroyed for the new one, you'd have to remove all the seats and everything except the bear walls. I'm not sure if that would be structurally sound. Still, it'll be sad to see it go.

I don't feel too badly about it because the new one will be as connected to the original as the current one. The current stadium is in the location of the original, but was completely rebuilt in the 70's and looks very different. The new one will be right across the street and will look much more like the original, which will be nice. I'm gone by it on the highway on one side and the subway on the other several times over the course of the construction and it really looks great, so I'm OK with it.

Of course, there's nothing it could be called other than Yankeee Stadium. The only one I could see naming the stadium after is Bob Shephard and he doesn't have the cash to buy naming rights. I hope they name something after him when he retires. (He's in his 90's and can't speak much for the next few months, but he just signed a new 2 year deal anyway, so he will be the voice of the new stadium for at least a year)

I'm just hoping Girardi and the 2008 yankees can pull of a world series win ala 1996. That's the only way to pay proper tribute to the House That Ruth Built. I want to see them end the season celebrating at home, not with some final road game.
